What is the purpose of the ECO mode in the Vauxhall Insignia?

I recently purchased a new Vauxhall Insignia and noticed there is an ECO mode button on the dashboard. Can someone please explain to me what this mode does and when I should use it?

One thing to keep in mind is that using the ECO mode may result in a decrease in power and acceleration. If you notice a significant decrease in performance, it's better to switch back to normal mode.
