Why does my Vauxhall Astra make a knocking sound?

I recently bought a used Vauxhall Astra and I've noticed that when driving over bumps or rough roads, it makes a knocking sound. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

The most likely cause of the knocking sound is worn out suspension components, such as ball joints or control arm bushings. These can wear out over time due to regular use and exposure to road conditions. It is important to have these checked and replaced if necessary, as they can affect the handling and safety of your vehicle.

Another possible cause could be loose or worn out engine mounts. When these are not functioning properly, the engine can shift and cause a knocking sound. It is important to have these replaced as soon as possible to avoid further damage to your engine.

Sometimes, the knocking sound can be caused by loose or damaged exhaust system components, such as heat shields or hangers. These can be easily fixed by tightening or replacing the affected parts.
