Why does my Vauxhall Astra's brake pedal feel spongy?

I've noticed that my Vauxhall Astra's brake pedal feels spongy and has to be pressed down further than usual for the car to stop. This just started happening recently. What could be the cause of this issue?

Trevor, this could be due to air bubbles in your brake lines. I recommend bleeding your brakes to remove any trapped air. Alternatively, there could be a leak in your brake system that needs to be addressed.

Trevor, have you checked your brake fluid level? If it's low, it could be causing your brake pedal to feel spongy. Make sure to top off your brake fluid and check for any leaks.

Hi Trevor, another possible cause could be worn brake pads. If your brake pads are too thin, they may not be able to provide enough friction to stop the car properly. Have them inspected and replaced if necessary.
