Why does my Vauxhall Astra's engine make a knocking sound?

I have noticed that my Vauxhall Astra's engine has started making a knocking sound while driving. It seems to be worse when the car is cold. What could be causing this and how can I fix it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like your engine may be experiencing a problem with its oil pressure. This can be caused by a variety of issues such as a faulty oil pump or clogged oil filter. I suggest taking your car to a trusted mechanic to have it checked out.

Another possible cause for the knocking sound could be a problem with your spark plugs. They may be worn or dirty, causing misfires in the engine. I recommend having them inspected and replaced if necessary.

In some cases, the knocking sound can be caused by a low level of engine oil. Check your oil levels and top up if needed. If the problem persists, it could indicate a leak or burning of oil, which should be addressed by a mechanic.
