Why does my Vauxhall Astra's engine make a loud clanking noise?

I've noticed that my Vauxhall Astra's engine has been making a loud clanking noise when I start it up. This just started happening recently, and I'm not sure what could be causing it. I've been doing some research and there seems to be a few different potential causes, but I'm not sure which one is most likely. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Emma! It sounds like you may have an issue with your engine's timing belt. This can definitely cause a loud clanking noise when starting up the car. I would recommend taking your car to a mechanic to have it inspected and potentially replaced if needed. It's important to fix this issue as soon as possible to avoid any further damage to your engine.

Hey Emma, another potential cause could be a problem with your car's exhaust system. If the exhaust is damaged or has a leak, it can cause the engine to make a loud clanking noise. I would suggest taking your car to a mechanic to have the exhaust system checked and repaired if necessary.

Hi Emma, in some cases, a loose or worn out fan belt can also cause a loud clanking noise from your engine. You may also notice the noise getting louder when you accelerate. I would recommend having your mechanic take a look at the fan belt and replace it if needed.
