Why is my Vauxhall Astra's check engine light constantly on?

I have a 2015 Vauxhall Astra and recently the check engine light has been on consistently. It's never turned off since it first came on. What could be causing this and how can I fix it?

There are many potential reasons for why the check engine light might be on in your Vauxhall Astra. It could be something as simple as a loose gas cap or something more serious like a faulty sensor. The only surefire way to know for sure is to bring your car to a mechanic and have them run a diagnostic test.

If you are comfortable doing some basic car maintenance, you can also try checking the OBD codes yourself. You can either purchase an OBD reader or use an app on your smartphone. The codes will give you a better idea of what might be causing the issue.

In my experience, the most common cause of a constantly on check engine light is a faulty oxygen sensor. This is a relatively easy and inexpensive fix, so it's definitely worth looking into.
