First, try turning off the car and taking the key out of the ignition. Then, try to wiggle the gear shift to see if it will budge. If not, you may need to check for any loose wires or debris that could be causing the issue. You can also check the transmission fluid to make sure it's at the correct level.

You may also want to check the shift lock release button. It could be stuck or malfunctioning, preventing you from being able to shift gears. If this is the case, you may need to take your car to a mechanic for further assistance.

In some cases, the issue could be with the gear shift cable. If the cable is damaged or broken, it will need to be replaced. It's best to have a professional inspect and replace the cable to ensure it's done correctly.
