Why is my Vauxhall Corsa's engine making a ticking sound?

I recently purchased a used Vauxhall Corsa and have noticed a ticking sound coming from the engine. It only occurs when the engine is idle and seems to go away when I start driving. What could be causing this and is it something I should be concerned about?

The ticking sound you're hearing is most likely caused by a faulty hydraulic lifter. This is a common issue in Vauxhall Corsas and can be easily fixed by replacing the lifter. It's not something to be too worried about, but it's important to get it fixed to avoid any further damage to the engine.

There could also be an issue with the timing chain tensioner. This component can wear out over time and cause a ticking noise. It's important to get this fixed as soon as possible as a worn tensioner can lead to more serious engine problems.

Another possibility is that the ticking sound is coming from a loose or damaged fan belt. If this is the case, it's best to get it replaced as soon as possible to avoid any potential damage to the engine.
